PROFILE – ANDREAS TESCH
Andreas Tesch is an Australian-born ceramic artist based in Berlin, whose innovative and authentic handcraft has spanned decades. Through years of dedication and expertise, seemingly impossible forms and tones emerge, shaped in clay to express ideas inspired by flora, fauna, sea life and the natural world.
Recognised as a leading international ceramic artist, Tesch was recently featured at the International Biennial of Contemporary Art Ceramics in Vienna and honoured with a 3-month solo-exhibition at Museum Art.Plus in the Black Forest in Germany.
A Brief History
After studying art and design in Melbourne and traveling through Europe, Tesch settled in Berlin in the mid-1980s, where he established an early studio collaboration with Mühlhaus & Breveren before founding his own studio on Mehringdamm.
Alongside his studio practice, Tesch has been deeply engaged in education, leading lectures and workshops at the Victorian College of the Arts and teaching sculptural ceramics at the Kunsthochschule Berlin. His work has been supported by an Australia Council New Works Grant and recognised with the Landespreis Gestaltendes Handwerk Berlin.
